The Horse Protection League
We’re fortunate to have many beautiful stories and happy endings to share, and here’s a highlight:Dali was surrendered to us with behavioral issues. She was prone to bucking and severely injured a trainer. Thankfully the owner knew the risks of selling a difficult horse (“risks” being they might head to slaughter) and they opted to surrender her to us. We spent some time evaluating Dali and made sure the behavior didn’t come from physical issues. It didn’t. We put a few rides on her as well and noticed the cranky disposition (accompanied with occasional bucking) but also held hope that the right person would bring her out of her shell. Because she was so young we hoped to find a home with a job for her, although like any horse, we would have entertained her as a companion only. The priority is to find what makes the horse happy. Along came 16 year old Sophia. Sophia entered our YEP program with Dali and spent hours fussing over her. Feeding, grooming, and slowly, riding. She was attentive to Dali’s communication and moved at a snail’s pace for her... for a while. Fast forward a few years and one adoption contract later, and Dali was honored by leading the #westernaires Varsity team in Denver’s #paradeoflights . (This is a coveted position to be assigned - there is only ONE light up flag🤩)Thank you, Sophia, for believing in Dali. The bond you two share has taken you BOTH so far! We couldn’t be more grateful to see Dali with her forever human ❤️ Congratulations on a huge success. ... See MoreSee Less

Today is the day! #cogivesday2021 is happening NOW Today is the day! #cogivesday2021 is happening NOW! We’re featuring Rosie today. Rosie was brought to us by animal control after being abandoned on the literal street. She had an injury to her tail that will leave it permanently short, but she doesn’t let that slow her down. Rosie has been with us for over a year and is one of our most gentle horses, having safely carried experienced children, adventured via trailer to the mountains, and been living with even our newest volunteers. Donations help us continue to help horses like Rosie❤️ she’s still looking for her forever home! #rescuehorse #rescue #adoptdontshop #nonprofit #foreverhome #donate #thankyou
